A Buffet Attendant plays a vital frontline role in delivering smooth, polished buffet service during catering functions, banquets, private events, and high-volume dining periods. This position helps ensure food displays remain attractive, fully stocked, clean, and well-presented throughout service, while supporting a consistent guest experience that reflects the venue’s standards of quality, speed, and hospitality.

Position Overview

The Buffet Attendant is part of the Catering, Banquets & Events team and works closely with chefs, banquet captains, servers, and event supervisors to support efficient buffet operations. This role typically reports to the Banquet Captain, Banquet Supervisor, or Catering Manager, depending on the venue structure.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Setting up buffet stations according to event plans, floor plans, and presentation standards
  • Ensuring all food items are correctly arranged, labeled, garnished, and temperature-controlled
  • Monitoring buffet levels throughout service and replenishing items promptly and safely
  • Keeping buffet areas clean, organized, and free of spills, clutter, or empty trays
  • Assisting with guest flow by maintaining an inviting, orderly, and accessible service area
  • Supporting proper food handling, hygiene, and safety practices at all times
  • Coordinating with kitchen and service teams to communicate shortages, delays, or special requests
  • Breaking down buffet stations after service and assisting with cleaning and reset tasks

The ideal person for this role:

  • Is highly attentive to detail and takes pride in presentation
  • Works efficiently in fast-paced, guest-facing environments
  • Communicates clearly and remains calm under pressure
  • Has strong teamwork skills and a service-oriented attitude
  • Is dependable, physically active, and comfortable on their feet for extended periods
  • Understands the importance of cleanliness, timing, and consistency in event service

Success in this role depends on reliability, professionalism, and the ability to anticipate service needs before they affect the guest experience.
