The Catering Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering catering, banquets, and event services to the highest standard. This role ensures every function runs smoothly, profitably, and in line with the venue’s brand, service style, and client expectations. It is a hands-on leadership position that blends sales coordination, event execution, team management, and guest service excellence.

In the organisation, the Catering Manager sits within the Catering, Banquets & Events department and acts as the main link between clients, the events team, kitchen, service staff, and senior management. Depending on the size and structure of the venue, the role typically reports to the Director of Catering, Banquet Manager, Food & Beverage Manager, or General Manager.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Managing the full event lifecycle, from initial enquiry and site visits through to final delivery and post-event follow-up
  • Coordinating event details such as menus, timelines, staffing, setup requirements, floor plans, AV needs, and special requests
  • Working closely with sales, culinary, and operations teams to ensure accurate planning and seamless execution
  • Overseeing banqueting and event service standards, including presentation, timing, and guest satisfaction
  • Monitoring budgets, pricing, labour costs, and event profitability
  • Handling client communication professionally, resolving issues quickly, and maintaining strong relationships
  • Supervising, briefing, and supporting event staff to ensure consistent performance
  • Ensuring compliance with venue policies, health and safety standards, and licensing requirements

The ideal person for this role:

  • Is highly organised, calm under pressure, and able to manage multiple events simultaneously
  • Has strong communication and people-management skills
  • Thinks commercially and understands how to balance guest experience with profitability
  • Pays close attention to detail and anticipates problems before they arise
  • Works confidently with both internal teams and external clients
  • Brings energy, professionalism, and flexibility to a fast-paced hospitality environment

A successful Catering Manager is both a planner and a problem-solver, capable of turning event requirements into polished, memorable experiences that reflect the quality of the venue.
