The First Aid Officer in a club and nightlife environment is responsible for providing immediate, calm, and competent medical assistance to guests, staff, and visitors when an incident, injury, or medical emergency occurs. In a fast-paced, high-energy setting where crowd movement, alcohol service, late trading hours, and peak-volume operations increase risk, this role is essential to guest safety, legal compliance, and the venue’s duty of care. The First Aid Officer helps ensure that any health-related incident is handled quickly, professionally, and with minimal disruption to service.

  • Position in the organisation:

The First Aid Officer is a frontline safety role within the operations and security structure of the venue. Depending on the size of the business, the role may be dedicated or combined with a senior security, floor, or duty management position. It sits close to the guest experience and incident response function, working alongside security, floor management, bar teams, and venue leadership.

  • Reporting line:

The First Aid Officer typically reports to the Duty Manager, Venue Manager, or Security Manager, depending on the venue’s structure. During trading hours, they may take direction from the senior manager on duty while also coordinating closely with security and emergency services when required.

  • Key responsibilities:
  • Respond promptly to injuries, illness, intoxication-related incidents, falls, fights, or other medical concerns
  • Assess situations calmly and provide first response care within the limits of training and venue policy
  • Monitor guests who may be at risk and escalate concerns appropriately
  • Record incidents accurately and support post-incident reporting and follow-up
  • Maintain first aid supplies, equipment, and readiness of treatment areas
  • Liaise with emergency services and assist with handover if an ambulance or medical support is needed
  • Support a safe environment by identifying hazards and contributing to incident prevention
  • Successful candidate profile:

The ideal First Aid Officer is calm under pressure, observant, discreet, and highly reliable. They communicate clearly, make sound decisions quickly, and maintain professionalism in stressful or sensitive situations. Strong compassion, confidence, resilience, and the ability to work effectively with security and management are essential. A successful First Aid Officer combines technical first aid competence with strong judgement, discretion, and a customer-focused approach.
