  • Where the role sits / reporting line
  • Sits within the Kitchen (Back of House) team as a junior management or supervisory position.
  • Typically reports to the Sous Chef and/or Head Chef, and may supervise Commis Chefs, CDPs, or kitchen porters depending on the venue structure.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Support food preparation, section management, and service execution to maintain speed, quality, and consistency.
  • Monitor hygiene, food safety, cleanliness, allergen awareness, and compliance with kitchen procedures.

  • Train, coach, and motivate junior team members, reinforcing standards and kitchen discipline.
  • Step up to lead a section or service period when required, especially during absences or peak trading.
  • Who succeeds in the role
  • A calm, organised, hands-on chef with strong communication skills and a solid technical foundation.
  • Someone who thrives under pressure, sets a good example, and takes pride in consistency and attention to detail.
  • A team player with leadership potential, a strong work ethic, and the confidence to support both service and people development.
