The Pianist / Resident Musician brings atmosphere, refinement, and emotional energy to the venue through live performance that supports the guest experience. In lounge, café, and specialty settings, this role is not simply about playing music; it is about shaping the room, complementing service flow, and reinforcing the venue’s identity through a consistently polished musical presence.

This position sits within the Front-of-House / Guest Experience team and works closely with the operations, events, and leadership teams to align performance with the venue’s service style, programming, and brand standards. The Pianist / Resident Musician typically reports to the Venue Manager, Restaurant Manager, or Entertainment / Guest Experience Lead, depending on the structure of the business. While the role is artistically independent, it must operate within the venue’s schedule, tone, and commercial objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering live piano or instrumental performances that match the venue’s mood, clientele, and service periods
  • Creating a welcoming, elegant, and memorable ambience that enhances guest satisfaction and dwell time
  • Adjusting repertoire, tempo, and volume to suit dayparts, special occasions, and crowd energy
  • Working professionally with management, service teams, and technical staff to support smooth operations
  • Maintaining performance standards, punctuality, presentation, and reliable attendance
  • Responding appropriately to guest interaction, requests, and special moments while preserving the venue’s overall atmosphere
  • Supporting private events, themed nights, seasonal programmes, or curated entertainment schedules when required
  • Caring for instruments and equipment, and reporting any technical or maintenance issues promptly

The most successful Pianist / Resident Musician is musically versatile, polished, and highly dependable. They combine strong technical ability with emotional intelligence, reading the room and adapting seamlessly to changing service rhythms and audience expectations. Professionalism, discretion, stage presence, and consistency are essential, along with a genuine understanding of hospitality. This is the ideal role for someone who can elevate a venue without overpowering it, delivering performance that feels effortless, sophisticated, and perfectly in tune with the guest experience.
