The Banquet Chef is responsible for delivering high-volume, high-quality food service for private events, functions, and large-scale gatherings. This role ensures banquet menus are executed consistently, efficiently, and to the standard expected by the venue’s brand and guests. Working within the Kitchen (Back of House), the Banquet Chef plays a critical part in coordinating event production, timing, presentation, and service readiness.

  • Position in the organisation:

The Banquet Chef sits within the culinary team of the Kitchen (Back of House) and typically reports to the Executive Chef, Head Chef, or Sous Chef, depending on the size and structure of the operation. They work closely with the Banquet Manager, Events team, and front-of-house leadership to ensure seamless service delivery.

  • Key responsibilities:
  • Plan, prepare, and execute banquet menus for weddings, corporate events, private dining, and special functions.
  • Organise kitchen production for multiple event covers, ensuring food is prepared on time, held correctly, and plated or served to specification.
  • Coordinate with the culinary team on purchasing, prep lists, labour planning, and equipment requirements.
  • Maintain consistent food quality, portion control, and presentation standards across all events.
  • Oversee hygiene, food safety, and kitchen organisation in line with venue policies and legal requirements.
  • Manage service timing, adapt to last-minute changes, and solve problems quickly during high-pressure events.
  • Support training and supervision of junior kitchen staff assigned to banquet production and service.
  • Who succeeds in this role:

A successful Banquet Chef is highly organised, calm under pressure, and detail-oriented. They need strong culinary skills, excellent time management, and the ability to lead a team through fast-paced, event-driven service. The role suits someone who communicates clearly, anticipates service challenges, and takes pride in delivering polished food experiences at scale. Flexibility, reliability, and a strong sense of standards are essential, as banquet service often requires early starts, late finishes, and close coordination across departments.
