The Handyman in Facilities & Maintenance is responsible for keeping the venue safe, functional, and presentable so service can run smoothly at all times. In a restaurant, club, or lounge, this role supports the daily operation by handling routine repairs, preventative maintenance, and quick fixes that reduce downtime and protect the guest experience. A reliable Handyman helps ensure that lighting, fixtures, furniture, doors, restrooms, equipment, and general building standards are maintained to a high level.

This role sits within the Facilities & Maintenance function and is typically part of the operational support team behind the front-of-house and kitchen departments. The Handyman usually reports to the Facilities Manager, Maintenance Manager, or General Manager, depending on the size and structure of the venue. In smaller operations, the role may work directly under the Venue Manager or Owner.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out day-to-day repairs and minor maintenance across the property
  • Responding quickly to maintenance issues raised by staff or management
  • Completing preventative maintenance checks to reduce breakdowns and hazards
  • Maintaining safe, clean, and operational guest and staff areas
  • Fixing or supporting work on furniture, fittings, plumbing, lighting, doors, locks, and basic electrical or mechanical issues
  • Assisting with setup, breakdown, and venue changes for events or seasonal requirements
  • Coordinating with external contractors when specialist repairs are needed
  • Reporting larger faults, safety concerns, and recurring issues to management
  • Keeping maintenance tools, supplies, and work areas organised

The ideal person for this role:

  • Is practical, hands-on, and calm under pressure
  • Has strong problem-solving skills and good attention to detail
  • Works independently while following safety standards and procedures
  • Understands the importance of discretion and professionalism in a guest-facing environment
  • Is flexible with working hours, including evenings, weekends, and busy service periods
  • Takes pride in maintaining high standards and preventing small issues from becoming major problems

A successful Handyman is dependable, proactive, and focused on keeping the venue operating safely, efficiently, and without disruption.
