The Night Manager is the senior operational leader on duty during late service hours, responsible for maintaining a safe, profitable, and well-controlled environment across the restaurant, club, or lounge. This role ensures that the guest experience, team performance, and venue standards remain consistently high after regular management hours, when service tempo, crowd dynamics, and risk factors are often at their most demanding.

Position Overview

The Night Manager sits within the Management & Leadership function and acts as the key decision-maker during evening and late-night operations. They typically report to the General Manager, Operations Manager, or Venue Director, and work closely with floor managers, supervisors, security, bar leaders, and kitchen teams to keep service aligned and business objectives on track.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the venue during night service, ensuring smooth coordination between front-of-house, bar, kitchen, security, and support teams.
  • Protect service quality by monitoring guest flow, table turnover, queue management, noise levels, cleanliness, and overall atmosphere.
  • Handle escalated guest issues, service complaints, and incidents calmly, professionally, and in line with venue policy.
  • Oversee opening and closing controls, including cash handling, stock checks, sign-offs, compliance, and end-of-night reporting.
  • Maintain health, safety, licensing, and security standards, ensuring staff follow procedures and the venue remains compliant.
  • Support team performance through clear direction, active supervision, coaching on shift, and decisive problem-solving.
  • Communicate effectively with senior management regarding trading results, operational issues, incidents, and staffing needs.

The Right Person for the Role

  • Calm under pressure, highly observant, and confident making quick, sound decisions.
  • Strong in people leadership, conflict resolution, and service recovery.
  • Organised, disciplined, and reliable with a sharp eye for control and compliance.
  • Able to balance guest experience with commercial awareness and operational standards.
  • Professional, presentable, and resilient, with the maturity to lead a team in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.

A successful Night Manager brings authority without arrogance, maintains control without disrupting service, and ensures the venue finishes the night as strongly as it starts.
