The Operations Manager in a Club & Nightlife venue is responsible for ensuring the business runs smoothly, safely, and profitably across every service period, with a particular focus on high-volume, high-energy trading environments. This role acts as the operational backbone of the venue, translating the venue’s concept, standards, and commercial goals into consistent day-to-day execution. It is a leadership position that balances guest experience, team performance, compliance, and financial control while responding quickly to the fast-moving nature of nightlife operations.

  • Position in the organisation: The Operations Manager sits within the senior venue leadership team and works closely with the General Manager, Venue Manager, and department heads such as Bar, Floor, Security, VIP, and Events. In many venues, the role reports directly to the General Manager or Venue Director, depending on the size and structure of the business.
  • Core responsibilities:
  • Oversee all operational activity before, during, and after service to ensure smooth delivery.
  • Coordinate departments so that bar, floor, security, hosts, reservations, and VIP service work as one team.
  • Maintain high standards for guest experience, service speed, cleanliness, presentation, and atmosphere.
  • Manage rosters, staffing levels, onboarding, training, and shift readiness.
  • Monitor compliance with licensing, health and safety, responsible service, crowd control, and security procedures.
  • Support stock control, cash handling, incident management, and opening/closing procedures.
  • Identify operational issues quickly and implement practical solutions in real time.
  • Assist with budgeting, labour control, and performance tracking to support profitability.
  • What success looks like:

A successful Operations Manager is calm under pressure, highly organised, visible on the floor, and able to lead with authority and professionalism. They communicate clearly, make quick decisions, and maintain control in busy, unpredictable environments. The best people in this role are hands-on leaders who combine strong hospitality instincts with commercial awareness, attention to detail, and a consistent focus on guest safety and venue standards.
