The Packaging Lead is responsible for ensuring every delivery, takeaway, and cloud kitchen order is packaged safely, neatly, and to brand standards before it leaves the outlet. This role plays a vital part in protecting food quality, preventing spillage or damage, and creating a polished guest experience from kitchen to doorstep. In a fast-paced restaurant, club, or lounge environment, the Packaging Lead acts as the final quality checkpoint for outgoing orders and helps maintain speed, consistency, and operational control.

The Packaging Lead sits within the Delivery, Cloud Kitchen & Takeaway function and works closely with the kitchen team, dispatch, and delivery coordinators. The role typically reports to the Delivery Operations Manager, Cloud Kitchen Manager, Outlet Manager, or Kitchen Manager, depending on the structure of the venue. They may also coordinate daily with chefs, expeditors, and packaging suppliers to ensure the operation runs smoothly.
- Key areas of responsibility:
- Oversee the correct selection and use of packaging for different menu items, including hot, cold, liquid, and fragile dishes.
- Ensure all orders are securely packed, properly labelled, sealed, and checked before dispatch.
- Maintain packaging inventory, monitor stock levels, and flag shortages or quality issues in advance.
- Uphold hygiene, presentation, and sustainability standards, including safe handling of containers, bags, cutlery, and liners.
- Support speed of service by organising a clean, efficient packing station and coordinating with kitchen staff during peak periods.
- Check that special requests, allergy notes, and add-ons are included accurately in each order.
- Reduce waste and packaging costs by following standard portions, approved materials, and packing procedures.
- Type of person who succeeds in this role:
The ideal Packaging Lead is detail-oriented, organised, calm under pressure, and highly reliable. They take pride in presentation, understand the importance of consistency, and can work quickly without compromising quality. Strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to manage multiple orders at once are essential. A successful Packaging Lead is proactive, quality-focused, and customer-minded, with a practical approach to maintaining standards in a busy service environment.
