The Pasta Chef is responsible for preparing and executing all pasta dishes to a consistently high standard, ensuring speed, precision, and quality during service. In a restaurant, club, or lounge environment, this role is central to delivering a polished kitchen experience, as pasta items often require exact timing, strong organisation, and close attention to detail to maintain texture, flavour, and presentation.

  • Position in the organisation: The Pasta Chef sits within the Kitchen (Back of House) team and works as part of the line or specialist station structure. This role typically reports to the Sous Chef or directly to the Head Chef / Executive Chef, depending on the size and structure of the operation. The Pasta Chef collaborates closely with other station chefs, the expeditor, and kitchen leadership to ensure smooth service and consistency across all dishes.
  • Key areas of responsibility:
  • Prepare fresh and dried pasta dishes according to recipes, portion standards, and service requirements.
  • Manage the pasta station during service, including boiling, finishing sauces, plating, and timing dishes correctly.
  • Ensure proper mise en place is completed before service, including sauces, garnishes, fillings, and cooked components.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, consistency, hygiene, and station cleanliness.
  • Monitor stock levels, minimise waste, and support ordering or prep communication where needed.
  • Follow all food safety, allergen, and sanitation procedures.
  • Work efficiently under pressure while coordinating with the wider kitchen team to maintain ticket times and guest satisfaction.
  • What success looks like:

The ideal Pasta Chef is highly organised, calm under pressure, and technically skilled in pasta preparation and finishing. They have excellent timing, a strong eye for presentation, and the ability to work cleanly and consistently in a busy service environment. Success in this role also depends on teamwork, communication, adaptability, and pride in delivering dishes that are both visually appealing and reliably excellent.
