A Plumber in Facilities & Maintenance plays a critical role in keeping a restaurant, club, or lounge safe, functional, and guest-ready at all times. Because water, drainage, sanitation, and equipment performance directly affect operations, this role supports both the guest experience and the smooth running of the venue behind the scenes.

  • Purpose of the role
  • To maintain, repair, and monitor all plumbing systems across the property, ensuring uninterrupted service in kitchens, bars, washrooms, staff areas, and external facilities.
  • To respond quickly to leaks, blockages, water pressure issues, and equipment failures that could disrupt trade or create safety risks.
  • To support preventative maintenance that protects the venue’s assets, reduces downtime, and maintains hygiene and compliance standards.
  • Where the role sits / reporting line
  • The Plumber is part of the Facilities & Maintenance function and works closely with operations, kitchen, housekeeping, and engineering teams.
  • The role typically reports to the Facilities Manager, Chief Engineer, or Maintenance Manager, depending on the venue structure.
  • In smaller venues, the plumber may work alongside general maintenance staff; in larger operations, they may be part of a broader technical services team.
  • Key areas of responsibility
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and repairing sinks, taps, toilets, drains, pipes, pumps, water heaters, and related fixtures.
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out corrective maintenance efficiently and safely.
  • Handling emergency call-outs, leak containment, and drainage issues to minimise operational disruption.
  • Supporting planned maintenance schedules, compliance checks, and equipment servicing.
  • Coordinating with contractors when specialist work is required and ensuring work is completed to standard.
  • Maintaining accurate records of repairs, inspections, parts used, and outstanding issues.
  • Who succeeds in this role
  • A practical, hands-on problem solver with strong technical plumbing knowledge and a calm approach under pressure.
  • Someone who is responsive, reliable, and able to prioritise urgent issues without losing attention to detail.
  • A professional who communicates clearly, works well with different departments, and understands the importance of discretion, cleanliness, and guest impact in a hospitality environment.
