The Resident DJ is responsible for shaping the venue’s musical identity and maintaining the energy, flow, and atmosphere that define the guest experience throughout service and late-night trading. In a restaurant, club, or lounge environment, this role is central to creating an engaging soundtrack that aligns with the brand, supports the crowd profile, and helps drive guest satisfaction, dwell time, and revenue.

Position Overview

The Resident DJ typically sits within the Club & Nightlife team and works closely with the Entertainment Manager, Venue Manager, or General Manager, depending on the venue structure. In some operations, the role may also collaborate with the Marketing team, Events Manager, and bar leadership to align music programming with promotions, themed nights, and guest demographics. The Resident DJ usually reports directly to the Entertainment Manager or Venue Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Curate and deliver music that matches the venue’s brand, service style, and target audience.
  • Read the room in real time and adjust tempo, genre, and volume to sustain the desired atmosphere.
  • Manage seamless transitions, set pacing, and musical flow across different parts of the evening.
  • Support programmed events, guest DJs, promotions, and special activations when required.
  • Work with management to align music timing with service moments, peak trade periods, and late-night energy shifts.
  • Ensure equipment is operated professionally and report any technical issues promptly.
  • Maintain a polished, engaging presence that contributes to the overall premium guest experience.

What Success Looks Like

  • A strong musical knowledge across genres, with the ability to mix creatively while staying commercially aware.
  • Excellent crowd-reading skills and the judgment to adapt instantly to changing guest dynamics.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and consistency in presentation, punctuality, and preparation.
  • Strong communication and teamwork, with the ability to follow brand standards and take direction.
  • Confidence performing in a high-energy environment while remaining guest-focused and disciplined.

The ideal Resident DJ combines technical skill, musical intuition, and hospitality awareness to enhance the venue experience without overpowering it.
