Position Overview

The Rooftop / Terrace Manager is responsible for the smooth, safe, and high-quality operation of all rooftop, terrace, and outdoor guest areas within a lounge, café, or specialty venue. This role protects the venue’s atmosphere and brand standards while ensuring guests enjoy a polished, comfortable, and memorable experience in a fast-moving outdoor environment.

The Rooftop / Terrace Manager sits within the front-of-house leadership team and works closely with operations, bar, floor, host, security, and events teams to deliver seamless service. In most venues, this role reports to the Venue Manager, General Manager, or Operations Manager, depending on the size and structure of the business. The position often acts as the operational lead for the terrace during service and may also coordinate with kitchen, reservations, marketing, and maintenance teams.

Key responsibilities typically include:

  • Overseeing daily terrace operations, including opening, service flow, closing, and readiness checks
  • Managing guest experience by ensuring prompt service, strong hospitality standards, and effective handling of complaints or special requests
  • Leading and supporting the team through scheduling, briefing, coaching, and real-time floor supervision
  • Maintaining standards of safety, cleanliness, and compliance, including weather readiness, crowd control, fire exits, outdoor furniture, and local licensing requirements
  • Coordinating reservations and section management to maximise cover, turnover, and guest satisfaction
  • Supporting revenue performance by monitoring table allocation, upselling opportunities, and service efficiency
  • Liaising with other departments to ensure smooth communication on stock, maintenance, events, and operational issues

A successful Rooftop / Terrace Manager is a calm, hands-on leader with excellent situational awareness, strong guest-service instincts, and the ability to make quick decisions under pressure. They combine high standards with flexibility, remain composed in changing weather or busy service periods, and can balance atmosphere, efficiency, and compliance. Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with a polished personal presentation and a genuine passion for premium hospitality.
