A Vegan / Plant-Based Chef is responsible for creating and executing high-quality vegan and plant-based dishes that meet the venue’s culinary standards, guest expectations, and dietary requirements. In a restaurant, club, or lounge environment, this role helps shape a modern, inclusive menu offering while ensuring consistency, creativity, and efficient kitchen operations. The position plays an important part in delivering memorable guest experiences, particularly for health-conscious, vegetarian, vegan, and flexitarian customers.

This role sits within the Kitchen (Back of House) team and typically reports to the Head Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Manager, depending on the structure of the venue. The Vegan / Plant-Based Chef works closely with the wider culinary team, front-of-house team, and management to ensure plant-based dishes are integrated smoothly into service and aligned with the overall menu concept, event requirements, and profitability goals.

Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Menu development and recipe execution: Create innovative vegan and plant-based dishes, refine recipes, and maintain strong flavour, texture, presentation, and nutritional balance.
  • Food preparation and service: Prepare, cook, and plate plant-based items to specification during service, ensuring speed, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Dietary compliance and allergen control: Ensure all dishes meet vegan standards and follow strict procedures to avoid cross-contamination with animal products and allergens.
  • Quality and standards: Uphold hygiene, food safety, portion control, and presentation standards at all times.
  • Team collaboration: Support and train kitchen colleagues on plant-based preparation methods, ingredients, and service requirements.
  • Stock and waste management: Monitor ingredient usage, contribute to ordering and inventory control, and help reduce waste through careful planning and preparation.

The ideal person is creative, detail-oriented, and passionate about plant-based cuisine. They work well under pressure, communicate clearly, and take pride in delivering consistent results. Strong organisational skills, a commitment to cleanliness and food safety, and a genuine enthusiasm for innovation in modern cuisine are essential for success in this role.
